An interview with GrownBy co-founders that digs deep into the insights, inspiration, and impact behind the fair and farmer-owned marketplace for local food
Three years ago, Farm Generations Cooperative embarked on a mission to revolutionize the way small farms across America connect with their local communities. In 2019, farmers Lindsey Lusher Shute (CEO) and Mike Parker (COO) partnered with seasoned tech executive Ravikumar Ramanathan (CTO) to build the first fair and farmer owned platform for local food, which officially launched on March 24, 2021 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns across the country.
What started as a simple storefront and a couple of farmers on a mission, GrownBy has blossomed into an accessible software and ecomm platform that allows farmers across America to have 100% control over selling their farm products without a middleman cutting into profits.
To mark this milestone, we sat down with Lusher Shute and Parker to delve into the challenges, successes, inspiration, and insights behind GrownBy’s unique cooperative structure, the impact we’ve had on small farms nationwide, and their vision for the future.
Much like farming, the GrownBy team has learned to pivot, adapt, and grow with the flow in a rapidly changing agricultural landscape.
